A minor formality change? No… a paradigm shift. 

The University of Kentucky is officially shifting their athletic department into its own limited liability company, essentially separating it from the university and changing everything for college sports as we know it.

You may be thinking this is just another change among many happening everyday in college athletics. But trust me, none of the changes thus far are as monumental as this one. Up to this point, it’s been temporary solutions for massive problems, only bringing about more issues and questions. This, however, could be a step towards the real solution.

Kentucky board of trustees approves shifting athletic department into LLC

The University of Kentucky's board of trustees has approved a proposal to transform its athletics department into a limited liability company called Champions Blue, LLC. They aim to utilize this structure to strengthen the athletics program and explore new revenue streams, including partnerships outside of college athletics, premium seating, and fan amenity offers. The LLC will be advised by a Champions Blue Board, which will guide development and incorporation with the university.

Historic deal will bring Washington Commanders back to DC

The Washington Commanders are returning to DC's RFK campus after a historic deal was announced between Mayor Muriel Bowser and team owner Josh Harris. The Commanders will invest at least $2.7 billion to build a state-of-the-art, roofed stadium. The DC government will contribute $500 million for stadium costs and invest in infrastructure, utilities, and roadways. The development is expected to create 14,000 construction jobs, 2,000 permanent jobs, and generate $4 billion in tax revenue and $15.6 billion in direct spending over 30 years. The RFK campus will be transformed into a vibrant neighborhood with housing, parks, recreation, hotels, restaurants, and retail, including at least 5,000-6,000 housing units.

Shaquille O’Neal accepts Sacramento State general manager role

NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal has accepted a voluntary general manager role for Sacramento State's men's basketball team. O'Neal's son, Shaqir, plays for the team under new head coach Mike Bibby. Women’s basketball player who graduated in 2016 just entered the transfer portal

Janae Jackson, a women's basketball player who graduated from Youngstown State in 2016, has unexpectedly entered the transfer portal, despite having exhausted her eligibility years ago. Jackson is just one of over 150 players to enter the portal despite their lack of eligibility. The surge seems to be an indication of players’ hopes that the NCAA might change its eligibility rules following the House vs. NCAA antitrust settlement decision, potentially allowing them to play another year and capitalize on NIL opportunities.

Savannah Bananas make history at Clemson’s stadium amid sellout crowd

The Savannah Bananas made history at Clemson's Memorial Stadium, showcasing their unique style of baseball to a sold-out crowd of over 81,000 fans. This event marked the team's largest audience ever and their second football stadium sellout, following a similar feat at Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium in March.
